I draw things, write things, and sometimes pretend to be a pirate with an awesome cardboard ship.
First, the official-sounding blurb:
Matt Williams is a writer, consultant, and award-winning freelance graphic designer currently calling Nashville, TN home base. With a decade of experience, Matt has established an eclectic portfolio working with clients in a diverse range of industries including entertainment, healthcare, hospitality, technology, non-profit and more. He has a Masters in Business Administration from Belmont University, and is a member of AIGA, the professional association for design, as well as the Freelancer’s Union. Outside the world of design, he is also an actor and improvisor.
Ok, but who is this guy really?
Good question. I’ll take it from here.
I tend to be a walking contradiction. I’m somewhere in between Joey and Chandler (and Monica). I wear Harry Potter sweatshirts and Air Jordans. I like musical theater and rap music. I have a Masters in Business and I’m an actor. I like to think of it as the perfect synergy between right and left brain. Or, you know, just being human.
I’ve married people (as in officiated their weddings, not… you know what I mean). I think semicolons are dope; however, I get called a nerd for using them in text messages. I like quoting movies — Dumb & Dumber, Top Gun, Billy Madison, Animal House, A Few Good Men… come at me bro. I don’t particularly care for people who say “bro.” I have pet a cheetah. Someday I hope to have a pet cheetah. (Read it again.) I’m a vegetarian, and frequently have spinach in my teeth. I love to travel. (But who doesn’t?)
I believe the worst thing in the history of the entire universe is hyperbole. I believe you get what you pay for… up to a point. I believe Ryan Seacrest will be responsible for the downfall of Western society. I believe everyone should take an improv class. I believe that if you don’t like burritos, you’ve probably kicked a puppy. I believe good things come to those who
wait go get it.
And you do what exactly?
I just like creating. At the genesis of my career, I began throwing things against the wall and seeing what stuck. I was (and still am) an opportunist, saying “yes” to things I found interesting, and taking chances on things I found rewarding. The result has been about 10 years of learning by doing, and developing a career that isn’t easy to summarize except to use the word “creative.” (At some point “creative” became a noun, which is good for me I guess.)
To give it some context, here are a few things I’ve done (sort of in order):
— Designed brands, logos, graphics and other assets for clients in a diverse range of industries;
— Got a MBA from Belmont University;
— Helped start and grow a healthcare business;
— Started a podcast that dovetailed into an artist management company;
— Was named one of Nashville’s 25 Most Beautiful People along with Taylor Swiftt;
— Consulted with and hosted multiple live entertainment events;
— Served on the boards of Belmont University Massey School of Business Alumni and Relay For Life (Nashville)
— Was nominated for Best Actor at Filmapalooza in Atlanta, and won Best Actor of the Cincinnati 48 Hour Film Project;
— Got engaged to a wonderful, beautiful, tall woman.
